Tips for Teachers

Back to School time is already here?!?! There is so much preparation for getting ready for “back to school”. Supplies are bought, plans are made, schedules are set (and re-set). Teachers are setting up their classrooms. Parents are setting up their kids’ closets. (We just finished school shopping today for my own three kids. Whew!) But for families of children with hearing differences, this back to school time can be a time of uncertainty. Will the teacher understand my child’s needs in the classroom? Will the FM equipment be set up and ready to go? Will my child make friends? Will my child be bullied? Will the Principal understand our families’ needs?

I have a few resources I would like to share that will help teachers in ANY setting to understand how to help make the transition Back to School easier for our students with hearing loss.

1) Check out this VIDEO about Hearing Loss in the Classroom put together by the Pediatric Audiology Project.

2) Here is a great HANDOUT about Tips for Teachers of students using Cochlear Implants provided by Advanced Bionics Tools for Schools.

You can view/download it here.

3) Take a FREE ONLINE COURSE to get your brain refreshed and ready for working with students with hearing loss.

Check out one of the many amazing courses provided by the Cochlear Corporation HOPE program here.

4) This is a great BLOG that has some basic information about cochlear implants and general classroom tips provided by Med El.

You can visit the blog here.

5) Hearing First has a great SCRIPT for doing Daily Listening Checks in the classroom.

Download the Transcript here.
